Our Practice
Maribel Elias is a Florida-licensed attorney advising businesses on intellectual property, corporate, commercial and regulatory matters, and cross-border legal strategy. Her approach reflects an uncommon combination of hands-on trademark and litigation experience, in-house and general counsel leadership, and an understanding of how legal decisions affect business operations.
Maribel’s professional experience in intellectual property dates back to 1999, when she began working with established Miami law firms, developing extensive experience in domestic and international trademark prosecution, portfolio management, brand enforcement, and litigation support.
She subsequently founded Trademark Portfolios, Inc., an intellectual property management company providing trademark portfolio administration and related support services to domestic and international businesses. Building on this foundation, she became an attorney and went on to hold senior in-house legal positions, including Lead Intellectual Property Counsel for Latin America and the Caribbean at Diageo, where she oversaw regional brand protection, international trademark portfolios, licensing, and broader commercial and corporate legal matters.
Today, through Maribel Elias, P.A., she combines decades of intellectual property experience, an entrepreneur’s perspective, and the strategic business judgment developed through in-house legal leadership to deliver practical, personalized legal counsel to her clients.
Maribel has direct experience in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), including serving as counsel of record. She has also directed trademark enforcement and litigation strategy across jurisdictions, including anti-counterfeiting efforts, infringement disputes, and settlement approaches. Her earlier law-firm experience included hands-on intellectual property litigation and TTAB support in paralegal and IP administration roles.
In addition to her private practice, Maribel serves as General Counsel of S&S Aviation Services & Logistics, a Miami-based company with an affiliated aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operation in Honduras.
In this role, she advises on corporate, contractual, regulatory, and commercial matters for operations in the United States and Latin America. This hands-on experience informs the practical, business-focused counsel she brings to the firm’s clients, well beyond intellectual property.
Her broader practice draws on experience with commercial agreements, governance, marketing and advertising compliance, technology and SaaS matters, emerging AI-related issues, and coordination of foreign counsel. She focuses on clear advice, efficient execution, and solutions aligned with each client’s commercial objectives.
Born in Cuba, having lived in Venezuela, and raised in South Florida, Maribel brings a personal understanding of the cultural connections between the United States and Latin America. Fluent in English and Spanish, she values direct communication and long-term professional relationships. She earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Miami and a J.D. from St. Thomas University School of Law.
